Financial questions that need an answer

You must, surely, know the ones I mean. There have been three in my (UK) hometown just in the last few months. They always sell perfume and watches, they never seem to stay long enough to decorate their own fittings, and you can GUARANTEE they’ll go bust and close down within a couple of months of their arrival and try to flog everything for £5.

Where do they come from? WHY are they never successful? And, most puzzling of all, why haven’t their owners (I refuse to believe it’s more than one company; they look near-identical) realised by now that the perfume and watch business is never going to work and started selling something else?

Is there some secret to these shops I don’t know about? Are they actually bases for government surveillance or the Mafia? Joking, but you have to wonder.
