Open Question: Is my landlord allowed to control how the rent is split even if the contract states the total amount due?



My rental contract between me and 2 other tenants has been recently breached resulting in the creation of a new contract. My landlord is saying that we unfairly divided the rent in the old contract so he will be controlling how much apiece tenant will pay, however the contract only states that we are responsible for the total rent amount.
He is saying that he wants no MORE or no LESS than the amount he is allotting per person, but if one mortal decided to breach the contract we are still responsible for the total amount (we will have one contract not 3 individual) Is he allowed to do this?
